At 9 as always on a Wednesday I'm joined by Jonathan Fost from http://www.darkencounters.co.uk/ and tonight we'll be talking about the link between Christmas and its heritage of Ghost Stories. 13 year old Jenny Crews from Cowplain will tell us about her original story that was published in the Portsmouth News, and was read by Meridian TV's Fred Dinenage. You can hear it here.
Then at 10 I'm joined by the man who was behind the biggest Christmas single of all time - Roy Wood from Wizzard will be joining me for the story behind 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day'
Keira Bullman
Christmas has come early this year for one teenager. Keira Bullman, who is 15 years old, had her wish to be a popstar granted by Starlight Children’s Foundation, a national charity that grants wishes for children with serious and terminal illnesses.
Keira is 15 years old and lives in Chichester, West Sussex with her family, mum Shelley, father Sean, Brother Ben (23), and two sisters, Lauren (21) and Sian (11). At birth, Keira was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, which is a severe condition that affects all the organs of the body, especially the lungs.
Keira's Starlight wish was to be a popstar for the day. Keira told Starlight that she wished for this because she has recently taken up the guitar. “Since I started playing the guitar I have been writing songs and it would be a dream to record one of my songs in a recording studio and have a photo shoot - basically living the life of a pop star.”
Kiera's mum described her daughter as “a lively child, full of life with a great get up and go attitude. She is always singing and dancing around the house, teaching dance routines to her younger sister, dressing up and putting on shows. She loves to do it all, direct, wardrobe, choreography, and of course star!
On Monday 13th December, Starlight arranged for Keira to travel to London on her popstar adventure. Keira began the day with a shopping spree, makeover and photoshoot, before being whisked off in her very own limo to a recording studio. Here, Keira had the opportunity to make a recording of one of her songs – a lasting memory of her day in the life of a popstar.
Starlight Children’s Foundation brightens the lives of sick children through once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children, restoring the magic and fun of childhood and giving the whole family happy memories to share, whatever the future holds.
Starlight also creates entertainment in every hospital and hospice throughout the UK. Sick children go to Starlight parties, laugh their way through pantomimes, go out on Starlight Escapes, play games and watch films on the Starlight Fun Centre, and enjoy the toys and puzzles of the Starlight Distraction Box. Happy children respond better to treatment and Starlight helps children to forget about their illness and simply have a bit of fun.
